A private project made in Vienna 🇦🇹

My name is Christoph and I am an electronic engineering student living in Vienna, Austria. Besides studying I am interested in developing iOS apps, dancing and I am a passionate glider pilot.

Everything started when my dad got the first iPhone, it was fascinating how the whole “touch” thing worked and what you can do with it. I got so into Apple that a friend and I started a German news blog about everything they announced or did at that time. That was the first time when I started thinking about developing an app, in this case a native companion app for our website. After about a year we shut down the blog due to lack of readers and due to time issues in combination with school.

A few years later I started my glider pilot license and encountered a little problem. In Europe we are used to the metric system and the plane I flew had the speed in knots and altitude in feet. That was the foundation for my second app, an altitude and speed dashboard which showed the different units side by side which was pretty cool. It was a really basic app and after using it for a while I published it to the App Store. It still exists today, just search for Pacific GPS Location Dashboard!

The app got much more traction than I expected and since then I am into developing apps for iOS. In 2015 I started with SkyPilot, a logbook app were pilots can store their flights as I thought that there has to be a digital way of storing that. SkyPilot hasn’t been so successful as Pacific, though it’s an app that I love to develop (as it’s definitely more “complex” than the GPS info app).

Furthermore, I also started a passion for embedded systems software development when I started studying. It’s really fascinating that you can turn on a sensor and fetch data, it seems pretty normal in todays world, though it’s really fascinating.

Let’s see what’s next.

Formerly CyanicSpace, now SkyPilot

Well, my favorite color is blue and therefore I looked for a domain name which included "blue" or something related to blue; in this case the color cyan. After trying out a few pre & suffixes CyanicSpace was crafted. Though, SkyPilot replaced CyanicSpace due to many wrong pronunciations. Additionally, SkyPilot is an easy and recognizable name.
